Mortgage Lifter

First tomato of the season! The Mortgage Lifter! Weighing in at over 1/2 lb! Wish I had planted a whole patch of these. Took half of it to mother. She loved it! Nothing in this world tastes like the first tomato!

Revenge

I'm not positive, but am quite sure that the squirrel that Sadie pulled the fur off it's tail has exacted it's revenge. My heirloom Brandywine tomato was picked and bitten only to be tossed to the ground. Sadie has become very "matrix" with her jumping moves to keep the squirrels out. I wonder how well it's balance will be next time she patrols the yard?

Counting Chickens

Just when things seem to be coming along....rain every day, gates are the wrong size for fence, and after 12 years, my position has been eliminated. On the plus side, 2 tomatoes in the vines, pool is up, and I caught 3 pan size catfish today.

Chickie Bock Bock

Saturday was a productive day. It warmed up enough to rake the chicken yard and clean out the shed. Took a glass of wine and a sand chair out to the chicken yard to spend some time with The Girls. Today was Graduation day at Canine High School. Sadie had her best class ever. She is still all wiggles and reactive to other dogs, but she has made great strides. Adopt don't shop! We love our shelter dogs!

Waiting

I sit here waiting. Waiting for warmer weather. Waiting for light. Waiting for a weekend without rain. The shed needs cleaning. The chicken yard needs raking. The fencing company rep need to pick a date to put up the fence. I need to plant my kitchen garden. I should just resign myself to pots and call it good. They're talking June for the fence and it will be too late to plant by then. Now that school end activities will be over, I can get most of this done after work. So much waits for the fence. Sadie, our lab/pit mix would love to be off the leash. The Girls, my ten hens, would love the run of the entire yard again. Tomorrow brings the first barter of the season....eggs for cheese! So, we wait....with anticipation.
